Textured Floor

  1. This is the inside of the wall where the weather stripping will be mounted.

  2. The weather stripping should be mounted to the inside of the wall.

  3. It should be located 1 to 3 inches inside the dam and overlap with 2.

  4. An additional strip of weather stripping is mounted to the bottom of the dam.

  • If the floor is textured, cracked, or uneven, and the home has a raised threshold, use the threshold to help seal the dam.

  • Apply a double layer of weather stripping along the inside bottom edge of the dam:

    • First strip runs along the edge where it contacts the floor.

    • Second strip is placed on top, slightly overlapping where the vertical weather stripping will meet.

  • Install vertical weather stripping on the inside wall where the dam touches the structure:

    • Align flush with the top of the dam.

    • Extend downward to meet the inner edge of the bottom strip.

  • Ensure the bottom and vertical strips overlap to create a watertight seal.

  • For tri-fold dams, place weather stripping between connecting panels:

    • Align with the wall.

    • Allow it to expand outward and connect with the top and bottom seals for a continuous barrier.

Using Parting Bead

  • Textured flooring under the door sill may cause an uneven surface, preventing a tight seal.
  • Use a thin piece of wood (parting bead) to level the surface with the exterior wall.
  • Cut the parting bead 1/8 inch shorter than the indentation length.
  • Fill the remaining gap with weather stripping raised no more than 1/8 inch.
  • The raised weather stripping provides a firm surface for the dam’s bottom seal.
