In October 2024, as Hurricane Milton was forecasted to strike Central Florida, I faced a serious concern—our backyard was vulnerable to flooding, and traditional sandbags wouldn’t be enough to stop the rising water from entering our home.

With a strong background in home repairs and a passion for automotive technology and racing, I adapted a method commonly used by car manufacturers to prevent engine fluids from leaking out. By reversing that concept, I engineered a custom solution I call Door Dams, which effectively prevented floodwater from seeping into our house.

After the storm, I saw the heartbreaking damage shown on the news—homes ruined and families displaced. It became clear that this simple solution could have helped protect many of those homes.

Thinking back on the storm and determined to help others, I improved the original design and documented the process for fellow DIYers. Now, you too can build your own Door Dams and take an important step in defending your home from future flooding.
