Caution – if the sliding glass door is flush with the patio floor and there are cracks or uneven surfaces on the patio floor, the dam cannot prevent water from seeping underneath the dam!
Sliding Glass Door Installation
Sliding glass doors are also built into a frame, but they generally consist of two sections that slide past each other, which affects measurement:
Measure Both Sides:
Because the distance from the glass to the inside dam wall varies, take separate measurements for each side.
For wider doors, consider using two rain guard sections for easier installation and storage.
Cut and Leave Space:
Leave a ¼-inch gap on each side of the door to accommodate the rubber seal.
Frame-Mounted Dam Consideration:
As with entry doors, frame-mounted dams typically don’t require notching.
Apply Rubber Sealing:
Use rubber stripping to create a tight, waterproof seal. The seal should bow upward when the rain guard is in place.
Due to the different track grooves in sliding door frames, use a sheet of paper and a marker to trace and mark where each notch in the rubber seal should be made.
Secure the Guard:
Use wood screws to secure the guard to the internal support beam, ensuring it does not rise above the dam.
